In the fall of 2007, a handful of photographers met up after taking a photography workshop with the hope of encouraging one another, not only as photographers, but also as entrepreneurs. With the generous heart of Andrew Schafer, of Andrew and Jessica Photographers, they compiled an email list of other local photographers that they wanted to invite to be a part of their new community. Being new to the Denver area from Pittsburgh, Shannon Kaple, of Center Avenue Imaging, with her Masters of Science in Organizational Leadership had dreamed of creating a community for photographers where they could learn from one another, network with each other, and she could aid in the growth of both new and professional photographers alike.
The first official meeting took place at her residence and to her surprise and delight thirty people showed up to the first meeting where Andrew and Shannon shared their vision for the group, taught about networking and asked everyone what direction they would like the group to follow. Jessica Bergthold, of This Modern Life Photography, formerly KB photography, was quick to join the leadership team of what is now called Mile High Photographers, and has been a tremendous asset with her savvy tech skills and her passion for planning events. She set up an online forum, and social networking site, which has allowed photographers to share ideas, post information on new group shoots and feature photographers of the month. She has also been the driving force behind the Album Show and Tell, and the workshops MHP has hosted over the last year.
